The swankiest hotel in Berlin is throwing a year long birthday bash to celebrate 100 years. Ranked the “Best Business Hotel” in Germany by readers of Travel and Leisure, Hotel Adlon Kempinski is legendary. And the hotel continues to make history, after opening one of the most opulent (and expensive) suites in the world: the EUR 20,000 ultra-bullet-proof, seven-room Presidential Suite. Enjoy the hotel’s jubilee year with special events, film screenings, historic exhibits, and of course: wine and cake. The famous Adlon birthday cake is made fresh daily in the hotel’s own patisserie: marzipan, nougat, and divine French chocolate, served every day in the hotel lobby. To mark the 100th birthday, winegrowers Wilhelm Weil from Keidrich/Rheingau and Steffen Christmann from Gimmeldingen/Pfalz have developed a birthday white and red wine together with the sommelier of the Adlon. You can taste this jubilee wine in the Adlon restaurants. But it ain’t free, folks. Expect to pony up EUR 25 for the bottle of wine, and EUR 7.50 for the wedge of cake. Unless of course you book a special Happy Birthday package at the Hotel Adlon Kempinski which includes all kinds of goodies, and a slice of cake, of course.
