The Lorien Hotel and Spa in Alexandria: Kimpton’s Crown Jewel in the D.C. Area

Lorien Hotel

Too bad this baby won’t be ready in time for Inauguration (seems there’s a dearth of accommodations in the D.C. area and hotels are making bank with outrageous offers). But just a few days before Valentine’s Day 2009, the swanky Lorien Hotel will open in Alexandria, Virginia, and it’s being described as “Kimpton’s crown jewel of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan region.” Located at 1600 King Street, the $50 million hotel will be the first property in Old Town with a full-service spa: 4,000 square feet of pampering and indulgence, utilizing organic and paraben-free products from Kerstin Florian. Did we mention the 24-hour fitness center where you can book a personal trainer or private yoga class? You may be eager to check out the sites in the nation’s capital (just a stone’s throw away), but the Lorien promises to be a destination all its own, with impeccable service and amenities including in-room menus with bath, pillow, comfort foods, and aromatherapy. Who’d settle for just plain old room service? Along with the 107 rooms appointed by world-class designer Vicente Wolf, the hotel will feature a restaurant and adjacent tasting room helmed by nationally-acclaimed chef Robert Wiedmaier.
